Our Art Gallery
Affordable Art

he mezzanine floor at Oyster is home to our art gallery where we exhibit a different New Zealand artist every month. The art we go for reflects the design feel of our shop – contemporary pacific – and there are plenty of New Zealand artists doing this so well.

Gallery

We want to support local artists and provide Wellington with super affordable original art.  It's for this reason that our commission rate is extremely low. Emerging artists need all the help they can get and our gallery has become a mecca for newly established and aspiring artists selling art at the $300 and under range.  Our calendar is booked months in advance.

Our first exhibition was Upper Hutt artist Kalyana and her two daughters Mel and Katie (Lola), who work in mixed media, acrylics and resin.  The response to their art was nothing short of fantastic and we had many happy customers.  They have since had another two successful exhibitions.

We also have loads of affordable art downstairs in our store – ceramic art, aluminium art, mosaic crosses, Haitian garden art made from recycled oil drums, pacific plates, maori inspired art, paua shell art and so on.  Artists whose work we regularly carry in the shop include Diane Toscano, Claire du Bosky and Caz Cooper.

If you're looking for a wonderful piece of affordable art with a pacific feel, please come and visit us when you're in town.  Or email us if you're interested in purchasing a piece shown on our website.

If you're a New Zealand artist doing any of the type of work mentioned above and you'd like to contact us about an exhibition, flick us an email including photos of your work and we’ll get back to you!

Currently Exhibiting Erin Carver

Erin's growing portfolio of work includes mixed media paintings, mosaics and collaged wall hangings.  She creates depth and meaning in her pieces through her collage work - using patterned papers, text, pre-loved doilies, vintage stamps and pieces of postcards, letters and ephemera from a collection long held in shoe boxes.

Erin's work reflects the inspiration she finds in treasure hunts through op-shops, nostalgia for the past and words that inspire, as well as an interest in spirituality and believing in possibility.

She hopes that her artwork mgiht bring joy and inspiration to others.
